TOP 4 REASONS WHY STUDENTS FAIL TO GAIN ADMISSION DESPITE THEIR HIGH JAMB SCORE
It is no more strange to hear that students with high UTME scores are unable to secure admission into the UNIVERSITY, this is as a result of one or more of the following reasons as highlighted below:
1. High UTME Score With Low Post-Utme Score: Some students feel relaxed after getting high marks in their UTME, being ignorant or neglecting the fact that UTME score is just a prerequisite that qualifies you for POST-UTME or admission. The score is not a ‘sure banker’ for gaining admission. Most Schools considers their POST-UTME alone believing the fact that it is from their own standard.
2. Wrong Jamb Subject Combination: This is a serious issue that needs to be avoided . This is the reason why JAMB introduced the brochure, the brochure is not for fun as many mistakes it to be. A candidate that wishes to study ENGINEERING and ignorantly went ahead to do BIOLOGY instead of MATHEMATICS is not qualified for the ENGINEERING but rather should be advised to change course, it is just as if the fellow is using crook means to get admission by avoiding doing MATHEMATICS.
3. Late Information or Uninformed: An adage thus saith “If you are not informed, you will be deformed,” and yes, that’s true. Some students have 180 in JAMB , whereas the school they chose requires 200 , but for the fact that they are unaware until time goes – they are automatically unable to partake in the POST–UTME or SCREENING. However, this is very common with federal schools , whose cut-off mark is usually 200 . If your score is below 200, quickly enquire your school’s previous cut-off to know if you are to apply for changes or not.
4. Discrepancy between UTME and O’level Details: This is very sad, and it is a major issue faced by students during registration. When O’level details do not tarry with your UTME information, it becomes a serious problem. The Following are possible mistakes that can be made:
Date of Birth
Name of Student [E.g Ogor , Ogorr, Ogo]
